Youth Aviation Scholarship Fund

The Bremerton Pilots Association is offering a $5500 scholarship for young men and women in the greater Puget Sound area who have the desire to obtain a Private Pilot License. This Scholarship is made possible by donations and fund raising activities by the Bremerton Pilots Association and friends of aviation in the community.

Funding Structure

Students who are awarded a Scholarship must pass the Private Pilot Checkride within one year. An extension will not be granted.
 
A $5,500 check from the Bremerton Pilots Association Scholarship Fund will be presented to the student upon successful completion of the requirement above. 
 
Scholarship recipients will be expected to join the Bremerton Pilots Association.

Eligibility

Young people at least 16 years of age, or at least 15 years of age if pursuing a glider category rating, and who have not yet reached their 30th birthday, are encouraged to submit an application.

Applicants must not have completed their first solo prior to the in-person interview.

Applicants must reside and train in the greater Puget Sound area.

Selection
Criteria:
  1. Serious about obtaining a Private Pilot Certificate.
  2. Shows good character, discipline and attitude.
  3. Currently has, and is likely to maintain, an above average scholastic grade point average (minimum GPA 3.0 on a 4.0 scale).
  4. Demonstrates an aptitude for flight training through successful involvement in and/or completion of similar activities.
  5. Shows a clear commitment to completing his/her training.
  6. Can meet the time parameters of the program (must pass the Private Pilot Checkride within one year).

How to Apply

  1.  Download the  Scholarship Application to your computer. Then, open the file in Adobe Acrobat, which will allow you to complete the form on your computer. Or, print the file, fill it out by hand, and then scan and save so that you may submit online.
  2. Before submitting, rename your file so it includes your name in the file name (for example, BPA-Scholarship-SamSmith.pdf). 
  3. Scan and save copies of your high school and college transcripts, again using your name in the file name (for example, Transcripts-SamSmith.pdf).
  4. Submit the documents using the form at the right.

Scholarship applications are reviewed twice a year, in January and May.
 
Applications received by the scholarship committee before January 1st will be considered for the year's first round of scholarship awards. Applicants selected to move forward in the process will be invited for in-person interviews at Bremerton National Airport in early February. Scholarship announcements are typically made in mid-February.
